Common hot water problems we fix
No hot water at all. On gas systems this is often the pilot light, thermocouple or gas valve; on electric systems a tripped circuit, a failed element or thermostat.
Water is only warm. A faulty thermostat, a failed element on a twin-element tank, a tempering valve set too low, or a continuous-flow unit that is too small for the number of showers running.
Water leaking from the unit. A dripping relief valve is often normal or easy to fix; water leaking from the tank body means the tank has failed and needs replacing.
Noisy system or rusty water. Sediment in the tank or a worn sacrificial anode. Replacing the anode every 5 years can add years to a tank.
Repair or replace: we tell you honestly
If your system is under 8 years old and the tank is sound, a repair is almost always the better choice. If it is older and leaking from the tank, or the repair costs more than half a new unit, we show you the replacement options with fixed prices, including higher-efficiency gas and heat pump systems that may qualify for NSW energy savings rebates.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about hot water repairs.
How quickly can you repair my hot water?
In most Sydney suburbs we can come the same day; for emergencies (a leaking tank, a gas smell) we come straight away, 24/7.
Is it safe to relight my gas pilot myself?
Only if your manufacturer instructions say so and there is no gas smell. If it will not stay lit, the thermocouple or gas valve needs a licensed gas fitter.
Why does my relief valve drip?
A small drip while the water heats is normal. A constant stream means the valve or the water pressure needs checking.
How long do hot water systems last?
Most storage systems last 8 to 12 years, continuous-flow gas units 12 to 20 years with servicing.
